The Platform Newcomers and Work, funded by the Goldschmeding Foundation, supports initiatives that guide status holders to work. Together with Regioplan, we are investigating what the effective elements are of initiatives that guide newcomers to work.
Active elements
In this, each initiative is unique and is in a context that leads to certain choices in the design of the trajectory.
Some active elements we see a lot of are:
- Intensive contact, guidance and support for participants
- Agreements with employers from the start of the pathway
- Participants' understanding of the Dutch work culture
- Facilitating self-reliance among newcomers
- Work combined with language learning
- Aftercare after finding a job
Evaluation Regioplan
Independent research agency Regioplan has been evaluating the initiatives supported by the platform since 2019. They examine what does and does not work in guiding status holders to paid work, and translate this into lessons and handles for the initiative and the platform.
In an article on the Regioplan site, Job Velseboer and Marina Lazëri reflect on the main insights gained in recent years.
