Project description

Many people in Gelderland are committed to the meaningful integration of newcomers, first and foremost newcomers themselves. The Province of Gelderland wants to collect, deepen, spread and operationalize the knowledge on integration that has been developed in recent years. We achieved this with action oriented learning about integration.

Making sessions integration issues

To this end, we organized eleven Make Sessions with stakeholders of integration issues on behalf of the Province of Gelderland. In these sessions, participants share knowledge with each other on various themes and devise solutions to problems newcomers face in the Netherlands. For example around the themes of work, education, health, key persons, female newcomers, local connections and the Integration Act. In the Make Sessions, we draw up action agendas together that the participants work on for a year.

Results & insights

Many dozens of Gelderlanders participated in action-oriented learning about integration: professionals, newcomers and volunteers who all shared and expanded their knowledge. And who at the same time actively worked on good ideas to make their way in Dutch society more accessible. King Willem-Alexander also attended a meeting.

Local actions and insight issues

With each Making Session, we always set actions in motion locally. It also provides a good overall picture of which issues are alive in the Province. This helps the Province to take on a strong role as connector, facilitator and where necessary booster. An interesting role: the Province is close to the municipalities as well as to the national government, where the opportunities and bottlenecks of new policy have to be found.

We collected the insights from those Making Sessions into a magazine with essays, interviews and practical articles. So that the lessons get right, and we continue to learn from each other.
