Knowledge by, for and about newcomers

Coming home to OpenEmbassy

While you know your home
You can come here
Until you feel at home
While we receive you
A warm encounter
No homesick desire
And if you still need some getting used to,
a head full of questions
Then get to know us
Be welcome!
Not hours, but days
And if you miss home once more
Or the road leads you astray
Know how to find us
We are your guide.
We are OpenEmbassy.

Soraya Shawki is a researcher and community builder at Open Embassy. As a spoken word artist, she debuted in the finals of the 2022 El Hizjra contest and won the Martin Luther King spoken word contest. Since then she has performed on various stages, won the Schiedam Poetry Slam in 2023 and is going to the finals of the NK Poetry Slam.

Her love for the word is growing by the day and she hopes to build bridges with her creative writing; for reconciliation with herself and the world around her. You can find her on Instagram under @sorayaspeaking.
