ITTA UvA
Reports Measurements, Expert Pool, Learning and Design Session
As of September 2023, we are working with ITTA UvA on a monitoring and evaluation study of the Himilo Foundation's approach to "Family support for language development in low literacy and poverty." We are doing this on behalf of the Municipality of Amsterdam.
In this study, we will monitor Himilo Foundation's approach for two years and evaluate it at three points in time. With the aim of answering the main question: is the approach of the project "Family Support for Low Literacy and Poverty' effective and transferable?"
ITTA and OpenEmbassy set up the monitoring and evaluation as "learning research." This means that we are already sharing any learning points with Himilo in the interim. In this way, the approach can be further developed and strengthened as we go along.
A lot of time and energy goes into reaching new target groups. There are several success factors for this: working "for and by the target group," easily accessible locations, having children's programs take place at the same time as programs for the adults, community-building and making the content fit well with needs.
With a diverse target group with varying levels of education and language among the parents and age among the children, it is especially important to train volunteers, work with experienced teachers and differentiate.
To measure impact, it is important that the goals of program components be described not only qualitatively in numbers of participants, but also qualitatively as the desired effect.
