Project description

Commissioned by the municipality of Rotterdam, together with the Ik ben Wij foundation and Confro, we organized 50 city conversations between Rotterdammers about various topics in society. We took care of both the conversation management and the reporting. The ideas from the conversations formed the basis for the municipality's Action Plan Living Together in One City.

Living together is about connecting with all Rotterdammers

During the 50 city conversations, there was room to discuss topics such as discrimination in the labor market, housing market and education, inclusive government and validism, philosophical diversity, gender and sexual diversity and emancipation, and racism. Participants shared their thoughts and experiences with each other and advised municipal officials on how the municipality should deal with the topic of the particular city conversation.

Results & insights

Diversity as a societal issue

The Action Plan focuses on diversity and discrimination as a societal issue. Something that affects the entire city. From countering housing market discrimination, to promoting equal opportunities in education and inclusion in health, sports, welfare and youth and diversity in public spaces and in the cultural sector.

Role model and measurable actions

In the interviews, Rotterdammers indicated that the municipality should be clearer in what it does. And also to be a role model by working on its own diversity and inclusion. And above all, the municipality should do what actually works, in measurable actions.
