Knowledge by, for and about newcomers

The story of Iyad

Today marks two years since I arrived in the Netherlands. It is a special day for me, because during this period I made the transition from my comfort zone in Lebanon, where I had built up my networks, life, and work experience, to the sudden situation of having to start all over again. It was a really difficult and stressful time.

Energy and breathing again

However, my energy returned when I went back to work, and together with OpenEmbassy , we OpenEmbassy initiatives to increase the comfort of refugees in Amsterdam. It was such a wonderful opportunity, and I found comfort in the fact that I could breathe again.

Back as an intern

Later, I left Amsterdam to study in Maastricht and worked in the social sector. Now, after more than a year, I am back as an intern at Open Embassy. I am here to do research for my master's thesis, and I find the same sense of security and comfort. It is such a great team and place. Let the adventure begin! 🌟
