Framework: Indicators of Integration
A mapping tool for data-driven development
How can you use the framework's 14 indicators to map and measure the state of integration in your organization or municipality?
During the OpenEmbassy Symposium on May 20 Marjan de Gruijter (Verwey Jonker Institute) and Renée Frissen (OpenEmbassy) provided a workshop on making integration measurable. The 14 indicators from Alison Strang's framework were central to this.
The Framework provides a lens from which to look at the state of integration in your municipality or organization. The underlying research to the Framework shows that all 14 indicators are important to a process of integration that is perceived as meaningful and successful.
Workshop
In the workshop, we asked participants: if you look at your organization or municipality through that lens of the 14 indicators, in what domains are you currently active? And how do you know if those activities are also perceived as meaningful and successful? To answer this question, the Framework forces you to start from the experiences of newcomers: do they think the policies and offerings are working?
Many workshop participants were working in their own ways to understand the success of their (purchased) offerings. Or were looking for new ways to start doing this. Based on their questions and comments, and the conversation that followed, we arrived at 7 key insights about measuring integration.
