OpenEmbassy is conducting OpenEmbassy study for the Municipality of Maastricht into social connections and participation among newcomers, within the policy framework Nieuwe Stadsgezichten(New Cityscapes). Together with the municipality, we are determining which insights are needed on the themes of work, participation and income, and social connections. Based on this, we are collecting both existing and new data, including through a multilingual survey.
We deepen the insights gained from the survey in an expert pool with newcomers, in which lived experience is central. In interactive sessions, participants share their experiences, engage in additional discussions within their network, and contribute ideas for solutions. In this way, we build useful, lived insights that help the municipality of Maastricht develop policies that truly connect with the lived experience of newcomers.
Hoewel inburgering vaak wordt benaderd als een traject richting participatie en werk, laat dit onderzoek zien dat sociale relaties minstens zo bepalend zijn voor het kunnen opbouwen van een nieuw bestaan. Door de ervaringen en perspectieven van nieuwkomers centraal te stellen, biedt deze rapportage inzicht in de sociale kant van inburgering en handvatten om beleid en uitvoering verder te versterken, in samenwerking met partners in de stad.
De presentatie van het rapport combineren we met ontwerpsessies met mensen van de gemeente en verschillende externe partners. Gezamenlijk wordt bekeken op welke manier adviezen in de praktijk kunnen worden gebracht.
