Project description

We organized an expert pool for the Municipality of Enschede to gather initial experiences from people who are integrating into Enschede in the Wi2021. The initial insights and discussions with officials from the Municipality of Enschede provide input for the municipality to take the first steps toward establishing a monitoring framework.

Monitoring input policy framework integration task

The monitoring framework that has been developed will serve as input for the policy framework that the Municipality of Enschede will draw up in 2024 and which will determine the integration task. This will enable newcomers to Enschede to indirectly influence policy in the Municipality of Enschede.

Implementation of the learning system

This project is part of OpenEmbassy work with municipalities OpenEmbassy implement the learning system. Using the scientific Indicators of Integration model that we have brought to the Netherlands, we work with municipalities to determine the areas of life for which it is important to collect data.

Results & insights

In the expert pool, 15 newcomers who are integrating into the municipality of Enschede shared their experiences with integration. They also interviewed two to three newcomers in their community about their experiences in order to gain broader insights. The following topics were discussed in the two sessions:

Various themes

Social connections: Who showed you the way? Do you feel the need to be more in touch with other residents? What are the barriers to making contact? What is your image of the municipality of Enschede and social partners?
Work: What are your expectations regarding work? If you are already working, can you improve your Dutch language skills at work? Does your (volunteer) work match your ultimate career aspirations?
Language: Is the language instruction of sufficient quality? Do you feel that you have sufficient language contact?
Stability: What certainties do you currently experience in your life? Are you able to combine integration with work, caring for your family, etc.? Is sufficient attention being paid to any mental health support you may need?
