Knowledge by, for and about newcomers

Podcast A job in healthcare

How do we ensure that newcomers participate fully in the Dutch labor market? What obstacles do they encounter? In the four-part podcast series "A job in care" by the Platform Newcomers & Work, Nayfaa takes us on a journey to her dream job in elder care.

"On your way to a job in healthcare" was created by Handan Tufan and Renée Kapitein from an idea by Petra Naser. Nadia Schoenzwytt is the voice behind the introduction and conclusion of the episodes.

Between two mountains (1)

In this first episode of a job in care, we meet our main character, Nayfaa. She talks about missing her family in Lebanon, loving her family in the Netherlands and her ambition to work in elder care in the Netherlands. We also meet Haci, one of the creators of the Colorful Care program in Apeldoorn. Nayfaa comes into contact with him through via and is determined to participate.

Inside we are together (2)

In this second installment of A Job in Care, Nayfaa starts her pre-training with trainer Aventus, partner of Colorful Care. How is she experiencing the training so far and what is her relationship with fellow participants? We also speak with teacher Brigitte about what exactly she wants to teach the participants and why it is so important that the personnel files of care institutions reflect society.

Support stockings and the art of letting go (3)

In the third episode of Toward a Job in Care, Nayfaa talks candidly about her experiences in the workplace. From a centenarian lady who helps her master the technique of putting on compression stockings, to dealing with clients who pass away and the challenges of her new job. We also speak with NT2 teacher Gea about her role within Colorful Care and her vision of the role newcomers with ambitions to work in care can play within an aging society.

Space and air (4)

In this fourth and final episode of the podcast Toward a Job in Care, Nayfaa discusses the challenge of combining work, education and caring for her three children and shares her dreams for the future. We also speak to Arja, who coordinates the Colorful Care project, about what it takes to give newcomers a great place in care.
