Roads to Work
Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment
Report
The study "How newcomers find work" aims to gain insight into how asylum seekers and status holders in the Netherlands find work independently, what supporting factors help them in this, and what obstacles they encounter. Through a nationwide multilingual survey, three expert pools, and additional community research, the experiences and strategies of newcomers in different phases—in the asylum seeker center, during and after integration—are collected and analyzed.
The results provide valuable insights for policy and practice: they reveal which pathways to employment are effective and where targeted support can make a difference. The research is being conducted by OpenEmbassy, commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW), and combines quantitative data with in-depth case studies to arrive at concrete recommendations for future-proof and inclusive labor market policy.
