Expert pool newcomers The Hague
Municipality of The Hague
May - August 2025
Expert pool, reporting
The municipality of The Hague supports newcomers in shelters in finding work. Six pilot projects were launched for this purpose in August 2024. In this way, the municipality is testing in practice which forms of support work well. What works well? What really helps? The municipality wants to use the lessons learned from this to develop policies that do justice to the practice and to the people involved.
An important question in this regard is: what are the success factors in these pilot projects? And what does it actually mean—for someone waiting for a residence permit—to be able to work?
That is why we are organizing two expert pools in the summer of 2025. At these meetings, newcomers will share their experiences of looking for work, receiving guidance, and working itself. Their perspectives will take center stage. Because good policy starts with listening to the people it affects.
We compile the insights from the expert pools in an advisory report for the municipality of The Hague. In this way, we ensure that the final policy is based on the experiences of newcomers themselves.
The expert pool provided valuable insights into the impact of work and concrete advice for effective guidance. Work provides peace of mind, motivation, and perspective— provided it matches what someone can and wants to do. A few recommendations:
