Project description

The Citizen Consultation project aims to strengthen social cohesion in an increasingly diverse society. In collaboration with OpenEmbassy Conversation Culture, we organize discussions with citizens to gain in-depth insights into their experiences and perspectives on living together. Themes such as connecting stories, rules for living together, reciprocity, and space for encounters form the core of this project.

Participatory working methods

Creative and participatory working methods, such as theater and co-creation, not only enable us to gather knowledge, but also stimulate citizen engagement. The results serve as valuable input for future policy that truly reflects the needs and ideas of society.

“Thank you!! I found yesterday very inspiring! I met some lovely people and enjoyed how you managed to spark so many ideas in such a creative way. The working methods and well-thought-out, careful planning ensured that we could really delve into the subject matter. We discussed many familiar topics, but also heard some new things. And we had a good laugh!”

Results & insights

The report has now been published on the Dutch government website. In addition, an online knowledge session was held on September 16, featuring a discussion of the main insights and a conversation between the Social Affairs and Employment Ministry's Coexistence and Integration Directorate and participants.

This project arose from a desire to hear from citizens themselves. We learned how important bystanders are when misunderstandings arise in public spaces, and saw confirmation that physical design and social interaction together determine the sense of community in a neighborhood.
