Project description

Newcomers face more than average existence security problems: debt, homelessness, illness, mental health problems, unemployment, etc. An important, and at the same time relatively underexposed, livelihood security problem is about (access to) appropriate care for newcomers, both physical care and mental care.

Solutions to organize access to care

Commissioned by the municipality of Breda, we investigate how to achieve breakthroughs with newcomers whose livelihoods are threatened. And we collect data and knowledge about the content and extent of the care issue. In these ways we can learn action-oriented what can be immediately improved to organize (access to) care for newcomers. We do this together with newcomers, oldcomers, key people, the municipality and civil society.

Results & insights

The action research team (A-team) picks up 20 cases of newcomers whose livelihoods are threatened and where there is at least one concrete question around care. Together with the person or family and local professionals, we organize access to this livelihood security through a customized plan. From the insights and experiences gained, together with the stakeholders involved, we design solutions that ensure that care improves for all newcomers.

Perspective Plan

In the project we work with our Perspective Plan methodology, developed on the basis of more than 50 individual cases of newcomers. The methodology's content is based on: the Institute for Public Values' proven 8-step customization plan model, Radical Help theory, Ager & Strang's indicators of integration and our field-developed working forms for inclusive conversations.
