As part of the decentralisation process initiated by the 2020 Civic Integration Act, the municipality of Rotterdam are partnering with OpenEmbassy. By taking a similar approach to the ones we have in Amsterdam and Alkmaar, we were excited to get an even richer picture of how integration and inburgering works (or doesn’t) in other parts of the country.
OpenEmbassy’s help desk assists new Rotterdammers in finding their way in the city and uses the knowledge we gather in the process to advise the municipality of Rotterdam. Alongside action research and community building, we can get a full picture of residents’ situation. Furthermore, we also organise sessions with policy officials and social organisations to solve five complex cases. In this way, the municipality can be truly ready for the new law, and newcomers themselves can be at the heart of policy development.
